Guilty as charged! I am one of the many Pinoy violators of this beating the RED light traffic violation. To tell you honestly I have only done this a couple of times in the same intersection. Promise! Too scared to try this somewhere else, I see everyone doing it there so might as well “go with the flow.” If you can’t beat them join them, right? Lame excuse for a traffic violation and I know in time if I’m not careful enough I will pay up Big Time!
I remember when one of my Tito who lives in New Jersey came for a visit many years ago, commented on how Pinoys read traffic lights. “Bakit dito sa Pinas, ang 3 colors ng traffic light parang pare-pareho ang meaning?” “Green means GO, Yellow means GO FASTER, and RED means GO, GO, GO!” It’s funny right? Well in other countries it means traffic violation and you deserve a ticket for it.
Why can’t we all do what is right when it comes to road discipline? We can really prevent or minimize road accidents if we only follow simple traffic rules. I hope every driver learn their lessons by the daily news on road accidents. I hope I don’t meet such accidents. I promise, from now on I will obey traffic rules. No more beating the RED light, anywhere! Promise!!!
